A great primer about how headphones / IEMs work

Posted on 2 April 202026 July 2020

Yes we all know we hear from the ears, right?

Some may also know that we receive a sound wave, but who really “hears” is our brain, which reacts to electricity, not air vibrations. The brain is also the site where we keep much higher level functional structures, namely those pertaining to our formation, personality, “culture” (whatever that means).

“Hearing” is a very complex brain elaboration. Those (few) who are serious about engineering ear/headphones such as to produce a given intended result inside our brain can’t do but starting to know how it all works.

S’NEXT Co. (the japanese company known also for the final audio brand) published a fantastic divulgative work on the topic. Enjoy !
